2000 CARRIERS OF THE YEAR

Hellman, Knox, and Rabine Take Top Honors

The 26th annual New York State Carrier of the Year Awards were presented at the Canandaigua Inn on the lake on October 21st. A total of 24 carriers were honored at the event. Parents, carriers, and newspaper representatives alike, attended the banquet. The yearly awards were presented by the New York State Circulation Management Association, Inc.

All nominated carriers received plaques for being the best carriers for their respective newspapers. Three carriers received special recognition. These Special Recognition Awards were given to Jacqueline Schmit and Colleen Faix of The Buffalo News, and Betty Babilon of The Observer Dispatch.

Adult Division Winner
Press & Sun Bulletin

New York State carrier of the year for the adult division was Dave Hellman of the Press and Sun Bulletin in Binghamton. Other winners in the adult division were: Renee Bernard of the Albany Times Union, Eriberto Hernandez of The Times Herald Record, and Sandra Bleier of the Democrat and Chronicle.

Senior Division Winner
Buffalo News		 In the senior division, New York State Carrier of the Year was Tracy Knox of the Buffalo News. Other winners in the senior division were: Kayleigh Hillebrandt of The Post Star, Brian Rath from The Times Herald Record, and Christopher Loman from The Syracuse Newspapers.

Brady Rabine
Junior Division Winner
Post-Star		 Junior division New York State Carrier of the Year was Brady Rabine from The Post Star. Also honored in the junior division were: Carolyn Burton from the Syracuse Newspapers, and Alex Strugala of The Buffalo News.

Overall, Carriers of the Year were awarded a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond and plaque. Runners-up were awarded a plaque and a $500 U.S. Savings Bond.
The chairperson of the judging committee was John D. MacCartney, from the law firm of MacCartney, MacCartney, Kerrigan, and MacCartney. Our guest speaker was August Fields, Vice-President of Circulation at The Journal News in White Plains, New York.
